Outdoor living

It's no surprise that with lockdowns affecting pretty much everyone at the moment, that people are spending more time at home and many are upgrading their homes and even more so their gardens.  A lot of people are going a stage further than decking now and opting for full outdoor living areas, many with an element of all year round or all weather use One such project we've had is this beautiful Larch and Cedar outdoor living space.  As well as the multi level deck it includes  * Fixed and mobile seating, with integrated storage * Gas powered polished Concrete custom made table * Drinks cooler *Bar *Raised planters *Clear roofed Pergola and cedar slatted walls.  *A combination of lighting to be fitted soon The timber is a mix of Larch and Cedar, from our local saw mill Dyfi Timber. We've made a few custom concrete items before including tables, work tops, kitchen islands and even a sink. This table was a real fun piece to make despite it weighing in at a sturdy 140KG! The t

Here's a fence we worked on closely with the customers and the local saw mill Ours customers wanted a style of fence they'd seen a photo of online. We see a lot of this at the moment with apps like Pintrest and Instagram being great sources of inspiration for people's homes and gardens. However! much of the time the timbers used are local to places like the US and Australia and aren't available here in the UK or are available but at a huge cost compared to using local timber. This was the case with this design and build. So! Once we decided on a plan we started ordering samples from various importers. The cost per meter was especially relevant with such a large fence and so many battens being used - some imported timbers came in at £5 per meter in comparison to treated sawn timbers from national builders merchants being under £1. (Obviously you get what you pay for here) The final product came from our local mill, Dyfi Timber . The finished sawn quality is se

We have a lot of beautiful projects currently ongoing and awaiting glass panels to finish them off. Theres a bit of a selection but most involve Composite decking and glass panels. Here's a taster...

Another stair case!

Here's a recent job we did at Erw Porthor Chalet park near Tywyn . The customers had a gap behind the chalet and then around 50cm of cliff. The deck at the bottom of the chalet lost sun before mid day and they wanted an area to sit and enjoy the sun for as long as possible.  We worked with them and the park owner and came up with his design. The deck gives them 5x3 meters of useable space and the stair case keeps it tied into the lower level deck for them. As with all our stair cases we like to keep the angle as friendly as possible so the drops here are 7.5 inches on 11" treads.  Hope you like... BEFORE - quite a challenging area to get started on! AFTER - lots of restraints here but we got it done! With views like this you can see why the owners wanted the raised deck Initial 3D plan. We had to change the plan slightly to work with the ground once we'd cut it all back.

So, a bit of a selection of recent jobs Outdoor living room at my own pad, (You know how builders homes never get finished), I'll post another of this when it is! Entrance and decking at a chalet park in Llanwrin near Machynlleth We took apart an old rotten deck here and rebuilt it. Occasional storage underneath combined with boxing off the front to tidy up the look.  Same deck as above with great sea views looking out over Cardigan Bay.

Walkways, bridges and high level decking

Some times I forget to post a job, or plan on going back for more photos and forget. This is one of them.  The customer had a large requirements list, due to the nature of the garden and a small stream running through it. The old water mill now converted property had no useable garden space and part of the garden was over the small canyon which we needed to create a bridge over Hope you like this job from 2020 near Newtown, mid Wales After cutting back the over growth here's what we had to deal with. After our build a glaring company will be fitting patio doors to access the deck form the living room The finished result form the other side of the stream. Theres a lot going on, but every part has a function and creates easier access for this complex garden Taking multi level decks to the extreme! The top level is around 7 meters above the stream  From the other side showing the scale next to the building A complex but fun job to work on, defo kept the brain cells working as much as

2021 flying by!

What a year! We've done our best to keep ahead of material shortages during somewhat tough times due to the Covid-19 outbreak and then Brexit shipping issues and in general we've not run out of anything. We have had to compromise on some of our regular products and timber in certain lengths has without a doubt shot up in price. The market for Garden Carpentry has vastly increased over the last 18months. We've worked hard over the years to give people the highest quality decking we can at affordable prices so have had a steady flow of work for years now, but the last year has meant our waiting list has grown and sometimes we just can't get to see every job; there's only one of me and with putting some big hours in on-site its left me short on time to get everywhere - but I'm doing our best!  So here's a selection ton of jobs from this year, I can't believe its May already and this is my first update of the year! I do post more regularly on FACEBOOK so fo
