Steel, plastic and stair-cases

Every now and again I decide that timber isn't the correct material for the job at hand - not often I must admit but this commission was one such case.

The customers needed to replace a badly built bridge and wonky awkward steps. The area was dark and had constant water flow from the cliff so timber was not suitable for the base level of the job.

So! as an alternative we used Steel I beams to span the gap, on top of that we used Carbon Negative recycled plastic structural grade beams and instead of timber decking went for a composite deck board in a stylish mist grey colour.

Im yet to find a composite rail thats customisable to exact degree of such stair cases and that provides adequate strength for such an area so we used Treated timber for the rails and coloured in an exact matching, specialist timber decking stain.

Here's the result, hope you like
